The Biomedical Grid Terminology (BiomedGT) is an open, collaboratively developed terminology for translational research.

  • BiomedGT builds on the strengths of the NCI Thesaurus, including concept orientation, description logic, and public accessibility.
  • Seeded with NCI Thesaurus, it is being reorganized to enable federation, including incorporating an upper level ontology (BFO), and separating out common words, ontologic terms and navigation nodes that will be populated by description logic reasoning. This should make it easier to re-use existing ontologies, and reason against instance data.
  • The goal of this experiment is to provide a terminology and collaboration platform(s) that can be used by domain experts in relevant communities that need new terminology developed or maintained.
  • Join us for a test -- if you have some small terminology or terminology subset that you would like the community to participate in, we can load it for you and provide training on using the workflow tools to get the terminology updated, and if appropriate, added to the LexBIG server for community API or browsing use.

BiomedGT is registered in the HL7 OID Registry as 2.16.840.1.113883.3.26.1.3.
